Abstract

In this information technology era, electrical energy saving has become one of the most challenging case. For the last 20 years, the electrical energy consumption increased by more than 200 percent, mostly generated from carbon emitting fossil fuel. Meanwhile, cities account for around 75 percent of the global energy demand.

The Building Power Saver System arrived as the solution to create an efficient and effective building ‘s power usage. The system provides manual settings of various power saving levels to reduce electrical consumption energy up to 15 percent.

The Building Power Saver system works by optimizing and reducing the power usage of various electrical components connected to the system. The infrared heat sensors detect the human activities while the light luminosity sensors detect the light necessity on the current floor. The sensors will simultaneously send data to the controller and then to the main server where data will be uploaded to the internet so user is able to monitor the power usage of the building whenever necessary. When user activates the power saver application, the system will optimize power usage by reducing or turning off the electrical components through switches. The JFET may be used as a switch to control current flow to the electrical components.

From the description above, we rely on power controlling as an effective way of reducing energy consumption, saving cost, and also saving environment. Building Power Saver is a promising system to help solving the energy problem.
